Update on the City's 2023/24 Water Budget

Public Notice 18 April 2024

As we navigate through Perth’s prolonged dry season, the City is currently managing a tight water budget

To keep in line with our water restrictions, the City has implemented a number of measures, particularly in our care of verges, gardens and turfed areas.

Water is essential for the survival and effective management of turf, plants and trees. With Perth expecting no rainfall for the next 30 days, many of our open spaces will become even drier, potentially leading to vegetation loss, turf degradation and the depletion of our tree canopy.

To ensure the vitality of our open spaces both now and in the future, we are implementing the following strategies:

  • Applying wetting agents through irrigation dosing units

  • Hand watering trees and vegetation

  • Fine-tuning irrigation systems to increase efficiency

  • Engaging contractor support for broadacre turf management

  • Regularly monitoring parks to fine-tune irrigation as needed

  • Implementing hydrozoning techniques

The City is committed to managing its water usage responsibly, while ensuring the community continues to enjoy its welcoming open spaces.
