Trees & Verges

Trees are an important asset that provide many environmental, aesthetic and cultural benefits to the community. 

Street trees can enhance streets, add to property values and reduce stormwater run off into nearby rivers. The City is responsible for all street trees on verges, while the maintenance of lawns and gardens on verges is the responsibility of the householder of the property adjacent to the verge. Residents are encouraged to look after their verges.

A verge is the area between the road and the boundary of a property. It provides a safe pedestrian space and vehicular access to properties. Residents are encouraged to look after their verges.

Rainwater is an environmentally friendly alternative to mains water. The safety and quality of the water in your rainwater tank will depend on how you maintain it and how the water is treated.
