City of South Perth staff and Councillors together with their partners and families planted over 1,200 plants including native trees, shrubs and ground covers at Cygnia Cove, Waterford to celebrate Planet Ark's National Tree Day on Sunday 31 July 2016.

In addition to planting works volunteers watered newly planted native seedlings and undertook an intensive manual weeding that was very beneficial for environmentally sensitive wetlands and adjacent areas.

Over the past decade the City has planted native trees in various towns in the Victoria Plains Shire, including New Norcia, Bolgart, Yerecoin and Calingiri.

National Tree Day is recognised as Australia's biggest community tree-planting and nature care event, providing all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature.
