My Foreshore, Our Future Survey Results Available
The results of the recent community feedback period, My Foreshore Our Future, for the City’s valued community asset, South Perth Foreshore have been collated and are now available and can be viewed on the South Perth Foreshore page.
City of South Perth Mayor Doherty said it was really encouraging to hear from so many people who use and love the South Perth Foreshore.
“Over a two-month period, feedback was received from 978 residents, businesses and park users. The response from the many people who value the South Perth foreshore was fantastic and included over 700 residents from the City of South Perth.”
“The survey results are important to help the City to identify the future priorities for the South Perth Foreshore,” she said.
The winner of the iPad Mini prize for completing the survey, was Salter Point resident Jane Taylor.
Residents, parks users and businesses were asked to review opportunities for the South Perth Foreshore, developed from previous consultation, to assist the City with future foreshore projects and activities.
Survey respondents were also asked to rank the importance of revitalising 10 individual nodes along the South Perth Foreshore, and to rate opportunities for each of them.
The Mends Street Piazza and Promenade node was ranked highest of the 10 nodes. For Mends Street, the most importance was placed on creating a pedestrian friendly piazza and promenade; followed by lighting, jetty improvements, integrated transport and creating an entry and gateway for South Perth at Mends Street.
“Mends Street is the gateway to the city, and the survey has highlighted how important it is to everyone.”
Another aspect of the survey requested respondents to rate 19 opportunities related to the whole of the South Perth Foreshore on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being very low importance and 5 being very high importance.
“The highest rated whole of foreshore opportunities were to improve the paths for cyclists and pedestrians, improve safety and lighting and environmental improvements, and to increase shade and shelter whilst maintaining vistas.”
The South Perth Foreshore survey was available online and on paper for submission from 1 July to 30 August 2013.
A report on the survey findings will be presented to Council in November. Survey information, along with other recommendations provided during the feedback period, will be incorporated into the final South Perth Foreshore 2013 and Beyond Strategy document and Management Plan, to be presented to Council in early 2014.
