South Perth Station Community Feedback

Media Release 14 August 2012
South Perth Station Precinct

The future South Perth Train Station is planned for a location in the Kwinana Freeway reserve at the end of Richardson Street, South Perth. At the time of construction of the Southern Suburbs Railway, this area was designed to accommodate the future station.

However, the draft document Public Transport for Perth in 2031, released by the Department of Transport in July 2011, does not include the future station.

In 2010, when it became clear that the South Perth Train Station was not a high priority for funding from the State government, the City engaged the services of a consultant to provide a business case for the funding of the station. The report prepared by the consultant indicates an option which involves the construction of a substantial building on the corner of Richardson Park, which is a Crown reserve, with some encroachment onto the road reserve of a closed section of Melville Parade.

Your views on this matter are important to the City and a report will be prepared for an appropriate Council meeting on the outcomes of this consultation.

Feedback will be received until close of business on Friday 14 September 2012.
