Kensington Project Area

Background

Underground power is coming to the Kensington and Waterford Triangle areas through the Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP) Tranche 2, bringing the last sections of the City’s power connections underground.

Delivered by Western Power in partnership with the City, the Kensington Underground Power Project will begin in November 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. The NRUPP will connect more than 2,000 properties across Kensington, Waterford, Collier Reserve and remaining pockets of the City, remove 678 poles, replace 29 kilometres of overhead powerlines and install 552 new LED streetlights.

What you can expect

Property owners are required to contribute to this upgrade and these costs are outlined in your 2025/26 Rates Notice. Various payment options are available. Western Power’s appointed contractor will notify residents of the planned works at the key stages of the project.
