Kensington Project Area
Background
Underground power is on its way to being delivered to the Kensington and Waterford Triangle areas through the Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP) Tranche 2, bringing the last sections of the City’s power connections underground.
Delivered by Western Power in partnership with the City, the Kensington Underground Power Project began in November 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. The NRUPP will connect more than 2,000 properties across Kensington, Waterford, Collier Reserve and remaining pockets of the City, remove 678 poles, replace 29 kilometres of overhead powerlines and install 552 new LED streetlights.
What you can expect
Property owners are required to contribute to this upgrade, with costs outlined in the 2025/26 Rates Notice. Various payment options are available. Western Power’s appointed contractor will continue to notify residents at key stages of the project and before planned works begin.
