Kensington Project Area

Background

Underground power is coming to the Kensington and Waterford Triangle areas through the Network Renewal Undergrounding Program Pilot (NRUPP) Tranche 2, bringing the last sections of the City’s power connections underground. The NRUPP replaces overhead power lines with underground power infrastructure in areas selected by Western Power. The Program is carried out by Western Power in partnership with local government.

Western Power is currently finalising the details for this project. Subject to council approval the project is expected to commence in the final quarter of 2025.

What you can expect

We are working with Western Power to confirm the timelines and costs involved. Residents will be required to contribute to this upgrade and these costs will be outlineD in your 2025/26 Rates Notice. Exact cots for the project will be determined during our 2025/26 Annual Budget. Various payment options will be available.

You will receive another letter from us when the costs have been determined. This letter will also outline more details such as the possible impacts to your property and the expected timeline for the project.

We will host an information session for the community in partnership with Western Power. Experts from Western Power and the City will be in attendance, available to answer any questions and discuss the project in further detail.

Before construction begins and at the key stages of the project, Western Power’s appointed contractor will notify residents of the planned works.
