George Burnett Park
George Burnett Park, located in Karawara provides valued space for sport and recreation facilities for the community. The park offers a wide-open space with a purpose-built skate park, cycle track, BBQ and two shaded playgrounds.
George Burnett Leisure Centre, located in front of the park, offers an air-conditioned indoor sports hall with pickleball, basketball, badminton, soccer and volleyball courts, two seminar rooms and meeting rooms.
The area is undergoing significant upgrade sand will soon be home to a new bike track, Dome Café, shared-use paths and a home-base for community projects like the Public Health Reference Group.
Manning Bike Track
The City is building an exciting new cycling facility offering bike riders and skateboarders of all ages a modern track to enjoy.
Manning Bike Track will feature both pump track and jump track components, with landscaping including seating, pathways, shade and other amenities.
The Pump Track is primarily designed for use by bikes, but can also be used by skateboards and other wheeled sports equipment. They are simple to use and because the jumps tend to be relatively low, they are great for young and beginner riders.
The Jump Track is a larger set of jumps which allow more confident riders to practice more advanced moves. The jumps on the Jump Track are typically taller than those on the Pump Track, allowing riders to develop their skills even further.
Manning Bike Track is co-funded by the City of South Perth, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, and Lotterywest. The total approved budget for the Manning Bike Track is $600,000. Of this amount, the City was able to secure $400,000 in external funding.
Construction on the Manning Bike Track is expected to be completed in early 2025.
Dome Café
Dome café will breathe new life into a community landmark which served as Manning Library from 1964 until 2017 when the library was relocated to Manning Community Centre.
External restoration works will restore the building's original facade and provide a perfect meeting spot for those who work up a sweat on the Canning Bridge to Curtin University Bike Link or the new Manning Bike Track. The café is expected to be open by mid November 2024.
Rugby and Touch Field Floodlight Upgrade
The City will be upgrading the sports field floodlights on the Rugby and Touch Football playing fields. The upgraded floodlights will provide more efficient lighting which will meet Australian Standards allowing clubs to both practice and play night matches at George Burnett Park.
The City is currently developing the designs and floodlighting specifications. It is expected that the floodlight upgrades will be complete by the end of 2025.
