Underground Power
The City’s vision is to have overhead power lines placed
underground throughout the entire City. We are well underway to achieving this
goal with majority of the City now connected and works to connect the remainder
of the City already in progress.
The Collier and Manning project areas were completed in 2022 as
part of Round Six of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP).
Works to take the South Perth and Hurlingham project areas
underground are nearing completion. This area has been undertaken in
partnership between Western Power and the City as part of the Retrospective
Underrgounding Project (RUP).
The Kensington and Waterford Triangle project areas will be the
final parts of the City to go underground. Work is expected to commence in the
second half of 2025 as part of the Network Renewal Underground Program Pilot
(NRUPP) in partnership with Western Power.
Connecting the entire
City to underground power will be an exciting milestone for the City.
Underground power has a range of benefits for the community including improved
streetscapes and streetlighting, enhanced reliability and reduced impacts to
our tree canopy.
