Underground Power
The City’s vision is to have all its overhead powerlines moved underground. We are well underway to achieving this
goal, with most areas already connected to underground power and works in progress across the remaining suburbs.
The Collier and Manning project areas were completed in 2022 as
part of Round Six of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP).
Works in the South Perth and Hurlingham areas project areas were completed in September 2025 through the Retrospective Undergrounding Project (RUP), which was delivered in partnership between Western Power and the City.
The Kensington and Waterford Triangle is the final area of the City to be undergrounded. Works began in November 2025 as part of the Network Renewal Underground Program Pilot (NRUPP), with completion expected by mid-2027.
Once complete, the City will reach the exciting milestone of full underground power coverage, with community benefits including improved streetscapes and street lighting, enhanced reliability and reduced impacts on the tree canopy.
