A season of arts, events and culture in 2018

Media Release 30 January 2018
Angelo Street Marketplace South Perth Sounds

In 2018 the City of South Perth's cultural calendar brings with it a host of experiences for the entire community to enjoy.

From February to April more than 20 events, many of which are free, will take place across the City. Included are the ever-popular Angelo Street Marketplace and annual summer concert South Perth Sounds, the launch of permanent and temporary public art installations, a selection of City and community hosted events, comedy, food trucks and free pop-up activities.

Join in the celebrations as the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay journeys through South Perth on Saturday 24 February 2018. Starting at the Old Mill on Mill Point Rd, the Baton Relay will make its way along the South Perth Esplanade to Sir James Mitchell Park carried by eight batonbearers. From South Perth, the Baton will continue its journey along the Swan River by water ski to Burswood Park.

The celebrations continue from 4pm-8.30pm on Saturday 24 February 2018 with the return of South Perth Sounds (formally the Fiesta Concert) to Sir James Mitchell Park on South Perth foreshore. The free community celebration will feature Perth Symphony Orchestra and the WAAPA Gospel Choir as they come together to perform Faith & Freedom: the music of George Michael. The concert follows their sell out performance earlier this year at the Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley which received rave reviews. Pack a picnic, bring your family and friends along while you enjoy an evening of your favourite George Michael and WHAM songs with a fresh orchestral twist by Perth Symphony's strings, drums and percussion.

The ever-popular annual Angelo Street Marketplace will transform the vibrant Angelo Street precinct into a bustling marketplace on Sunday 25 March 2018 with an array of stalls showcasing the work of local artists and creatives, plus music and fashion, exciting activations hidden in laneways and unique curated arts experiences. Pop-up bars, delicious food, pet pampering, and interactive entertainment for the little ones will also make a big impact, contributing to an exciting cultural experience for the whole family.

Every Wednesday in March the historic Old Mill will host The Big HOO-HAA. Prepare to laugh with hilarious improve comedy from some of Perth's best comedians. Plus, South Perth StrEATS continues daily from 5-8pm on South Perth forshore at Coode St. Picnic along the river with the best views of the city skyline. With so many food vans on offer, there's plenty to tempt your taste buds.
