South Perth and Hurlingham Project Area

Underground Power has come to the South Perth and Hurlingham areas through the Retrospective Undergrounding Project (RUP).
This project is replacing overhead power lines with underground power infrastructure to move closer towards the City's vision for underground power in all of its suburbs. The RUP is a partnership between the City and Western Power.
Construction in the South Perth and Hurlingham project areas commenced in October 2022 and is scheduled for completion by 31 July 2025.
Background
The South Perth project area was initially assessed for underground power in 2017 within Round Six of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP). Hurlingham was not eligible for consideration as a SUPP as the area contained less than 500 properties (the minimum amount required for a SUPP). Instead, the City nominated this area as a RUP, which has lower qualification requirements, to ensure this community was included.
In 2020 Western Power finalised estimates for the South Perth SUPP and the Hurlingham RUP, and determined that amalgamating these two project areas and delivering the entire project as a RUP was the most appropriate path forward.
What you can expect
Stage 1 - Property Services Installation
Stage 2 - Street Services Installation
Stage 3 - Changeover
Stage 4 – Removal of poles and wires
Stage 1 and 2 of the project works have been completed. Stage 3 and 4 are being completed concurrently, transitioning properties to underground power as efficiently as possible. These stages involve changeover works to switch properties to the underground service (occupiers will be notified a few days beforehand detailing what this process means for them).
Once properties are connected to underground circuits, poles and wires will be removed. Some poles and wires will need to remain where they are servicing other streets not yet underground.
