Manning Community Centre Exhibition Boxes

At the beginning of 2017 ten permanent public exhibition boxes were installed at the new Manning Community Centre, to provide a public display space to showcase local artists, community groups or collaborations between the two.

On 5 August 2019, a new exhibition by Perth-based artist Vincent Elliott entitled Suburban Altars, went on display on the southern external wall of the Community Hall at 2 Conochie Cres, Manning.

Suburban Altars explores themes of tradition, remembrance, reverence and environment. In the traditional sense altars are places of offering, sacrifice, remembering and signifying special places in the environment. The artist has delved into this theme looking to interpret broader meanings from everyday moments and actions like coming home, working, play, relaxing and sleeping and how these activities connect with our ancient and modern self. The interpretations have resulted in a fusion of historical and contemporary aesthetics.

The exhibition is on show until 22 August 2019.

The City offers exhibitors two opportunities each year to utilise the boxes to exhibit for a period of four months.
