Artist the people's choice for second year
Congratulations to Paris Wilkinson, winner of the Emerging Artist Soco Realty People’s Choice Award for 2021. Her work titled Patty-Anne was a crowd-pleaser during the exhibition, receiving the highest number of votes from the public. Paris Wilkinson was also awarded the People's Choice in 2020 for her work titled Granddad Ted.
In addition to a $500 cash prize provided by generous sponsor Soco Realty, the artwork will displayed in large format alongside past winners in the underground carpark at Coles on Angelo Street.
Celebrating its 19th year, the Emerging Artist Award is a vital part of the City’s cultural life and is open to all emerging artists who live in Western Australia. A total of 157 artists from all around Western Australia entered, and 84 works were selected by judges Tui Raven, Gok-Lim Finch and Tom Freeman to feature in the exhibition expertly curated by Brent Harrison.
This year the City was proud to purchase an artwork titled Jimmy Wavehill by Chantelle Crupi.
Sponsors White Frame, The Karalee on Preston, Preston Street IGA, Liquor Barons on Angelo, Geoff Baker MLA, Soco Realty and Curtin University John Curtin Gallery, made the Emerging Artist Award possible this year.
