Emerging Artist exhibition promises to be bigger than ever
The City of South Perth Emerging Artist exhibition is gearing up to be the biggest in recent years, with 105 works selected from a large pool of 225 entrants.
The free exhibition at South Perth Community Hall will be open to the public from 18 to 26 October, celebrating young and early-career artists across eight categories, including works on paper, textiles, sculptures and mixed media.
A prize pool of just over $15,000 is up for grabs, including a major prize of $5,000 and the opportunity for the winning artist to showcase their work at a solo exhibition.
Attendees will also have the chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award, which will see the winner receive the unique opportunity to have a paste-up of their work showcased at the Angelo Street Coles underground carpark in South Perth.
City of South Perth Mayor, Greg Milner said the exhibition was more than just a competition, it was a celebration of creativity and innovation throughout the wider community.
“We are proud to support our emerging artists, who are the heartbeat of our cultural landscape,” Mayor Milner said.
“By providing talented individuals with a platform to showcase their work, we are investing in the future of our arts scene,” he added.
Mayor Milner said the event opened doors and offered a springboard for their careers.
