City launches the 2019/20 Arts, Events and Culture Calendar
The City of South Perth will shine brighter than ever this summer when it hosts a range of arts and cultural activities to attract and entertain residents and visitors.
Yesterday the City released the 2019/20 Arts, Events and Culture Calendar featuring more than 25 events running from November 2019 to January 2020. Many of these events are free, and the calendar includes new activations at the soon to be opened Connect South, Mends Street piazza at the South Perth Foreshore.
The City’s flagship events return including Australia Day celebrations on the foreshore on 26 January 2020 and annual summer concert South Perth Sounds at Sir James Mitchell Park on 22 February 2020.
From November to December, visitors can enjoy the free Find Me pop up activations dotted around the City, have their tastebuds tingling at South Perth StrEATS food trucks or experience a trip back in time with the Old Mill Open House Perth on 16-17 November 2019.
Later this month, there’s the chance to see the heritage site illuminated for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Carols on 30 November 2019 with the Old Mill hosting Christmas carols for the first time, and the Connect South, Mends Street piazza also hosting Carols at Sunset on 15 December.
Some exciting new events appear, with SouthSide Summer running for the first time in the new Connect South, Mends Street piazza on Friday nights and Saturdays during FRINGE WORLD, Perth’s most popular annual festival and the third-largest fringe in the world in 2019.
SouthSide Summer will have two distinct vibes with Acoustic Fridays and Family Saturdays, running from Friday 17 January to Saturday 15 February (excluding the Australia Day weekend).
Enjoy relaxed tunes set to a stunning backdrop to finish your working week from 4-6pm on Acoustic Fridays. Stay late and see the area light up at night – you could even grab a bite or quick drink along Mends St at one of the excellent restaurants.
Bring the little ones for hours of free fun on Family Saturdays from 10am-2pm, when children’s activities, live and roving entertainment and more will electrify the area and encourage people to further explore Mends Street and the City.
Enjoy pop up art with the A-Reserve temporary art returning, beginning with a new piece by Claire Davenhall, ‘Mapping the Terrain’, which will be created at Andrew Thomson Reserve with the help of the Salter Point Sea Scouts.
Get your groove on at the End of Year Disco, relax and create art as part of the Mind Lounge series, and head to South Perth Libraries for their regular and festive themed sessions.
A second calendar, showcasing activities from February to April, will be released in early 2020.
Both calendars will be distributed with the November and January editions of Peninsula magazine respectively, and more information can be found on the City’s website.
This year, the calendar’s events are spread further across the City to engage and include more of our community. The City is committed to fostering a connected and safe community, and through its range of events and activities aims to bring residents and visitors together to enjoy their local area.
