How to reduce contamination in your recycling bins

News Update 10 April 2019

The City’s latest contamination report from its waste contractor, Cleanaway has identified a reduction in the contamination rate in residents recycling bins. Re-occurring contaminants identified include;

  • Textiles (clothing)
  • Soft plastics (bread bags, plastic bags etc)
  • Polystyrene (coffee cups and takeaway containers)
  • Garden / green waste

To reduce contaminants in the recycling bin, the City's Recycling Centre provides a number of services to help you correctly dispose of your waste. Charity bins are also located at the Centre for your pre-loved clothing.

Soft plastics can be recycled at selected supermarkets through a scheme run by the REDcycle program. Find your nearest soft plastic recycling location here.
