Awards open for young creative writers

Entries are now open for this year’s South Perth Young Writers Award (SPYWA).

These annual awards celebrate excellence in creative writing for students in Years 1 to 12, who live or go to school the City of South

SPYWA offers an exciting opportunity for young writers to express themselves and showcase their talents with shortlisted entrants invited to take part in a writing workshop with a published author to refine their submissions before they are judged.

There are five age-based categories for creative prose, with the Christobel Mattingley Bronze Medallion awarded to the entry judged to be the most outstanding across all categories. So, get creative. We can’t wait to read your entries. 

Entries will be judged in the following categories:

  • Lower Primary Years 1-2
  • Middle Primary Years 3-4
  • Upper Primary Years 5-6
  • Lower Secondary Years 7-9
  • Upper Secondary Years 10-12

Entries close 4 June 2023.
