Respect our foreshore this Australia Day 2026
Australia Day 2026 in the City of South Perth will centre on our annual Australia Day Morning Ceremony and Great Aussie Breakfast at Sir James Mitchell Park.
While the City of Perth will host its Hancock Prospecting Australia Day event at Langley Park from 3pm, including an 8.30pm drone and fireworks display, there is no major event planned on the South Perth foreshore – and facilities will be limited. The City of Perth recommends the drone element of its light show is not designed to be viewed from locations other than Langley Park.
If you do choose to visit the South Perth foreshore, please help keep the area safe and respectful for everyone. WA Police will be patrolling the foreshore and some traffic management will be in place.
Traffic, road closures and parking
To help reduce congestion, consider walking, cycling, ride-share or carpooling – and allow extra travel time.
Before heading out, check the City’s Facebook page and the Main Roads WA website for the latest road closure and traffic information.
Temporary road closures planned on Monday 26 January:
- Mends Street and South Perth Esplanade intersection between 6pm and 11pm.
- The intersection of Coode Street and Mill Point Road will be closed once parking areas are full to help reduce traffic congestion. At the end of the event, temporary traffic controls will be in place to help vehicles exit Sir James Mitchell Park safely and efficiently.
- Main Roads WA will temporarily close the Kwinana Freeway off ramp at the Mill Point Road intersection from 7pm.
- Coode Street Jetty Boat Ramp will be closed from12pm and reopened on the morning of 27 January 2026.
Please note that closure times may change on the night depending on traffic conditions and there will be limited parking available on the day. Be sure to follow signage for parking and traffic restrictions.
