Underground power works start in Kensington this November

News Update 30 October 2025
Underground Power

Work to deliver underground power to the remaining homes in the City of South Perth will begin in November.

The Kensington Underground Power Project will connect more than 2,000 properties across Kensington, Waterford, Collier Reserve and remaining pockets of the City to underground power. The project will also remove 678 poles, replace 29 kilometres of overhead powerlines and install 552 new LED streetlights, with all works expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Western Power is working closely with the City to deliver the project, which will improve network reliability, enhance public safety and support a cleaner energy future. Underground power reduces the risk of outages during severe weather and allows for larger trees and greener streetscapes.

Residents are encouraged to take extra care around work sites, follow signage and watch for crews operating in their neighbourhoods. Affected residents will receive a letter about each stage of the works.
