Neon Youth Festival celebrates young people

Media Release 17 March 2023

The City of South Perth is celebrating Youth Week WA 2023, hosting free events and activities for our community of young people from 14 to 21 April.

Our flagship Youth Week event, the Neon Youth Festival will feature live music from Dulcie, Dear Sunday, Mali Jo$e, Bad Weather and Sash Seabourne, and include a silent disco, UV body painting, food trucks and a Fusion Australia chill out space for young people aged 16 to 25 years (ID must be shown).

Held in partnership with the Town of Victoria Park, the Neon Youth Festival will be a free, ticketed event to take place at George Burnett Park in Karawarra from 4.30-10pm on Saturday 14 April.

For young people aged 12-17 years, the Amazing Race is their chance to meet other young people in the area and put their problem-solving skills to the test. There will be prizes up for grabs and burgers and ice-creams for everyone who takes part. Held on Thursday 20 April at Manning Hub, the free event is provided by the Belmont, Victoria Park, South Perth Local Drug Action Group – a collaborative group of service providers from local government, health, police, education, peak bodies and youth services who aim to minimise alcohol-related harm to young people in the community.

Youth Week WA is the largest annual celebration to recognise and celebrate young people aged 10-25 years old. This year’s theme is “Becoming - With Others, We Dream” – a celebration of our community and a focus on how we can dream ourselves a better world.

“The annual statewide celebration recognises the positive contributions of young people to our community throughout Western Australia,” City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner said.

“Through its Youth Plan, the City of South Perth delivers a variety of youth focused programs and services including Youth Week programming,” Mayor Milner said.

“Although young people face many challenges, there are also many opportunities. Young people are open-minded, collaborative, adaptive and intuitively adept with technology. The City of South Perth is proud to support young people and provide opportunities for them to thrive.”

The City’s Youth Week celebrations are an initiative of the City’s 2021-2025 Youth Plan.

Youth Week is held in partnership with Mentally Healthy WA to promote the Act Belong Commit campaign.
