Business in Focus: looking back on 2022

News Update 14 December 2022
Buy local Economic Development

Developing the local economy and creating the right environment for business to thrive has been a key strategic focus for the City of South Perth.

In 2022, the City welcomed a new Economic Development Officer, along with some great new businesses and fantastic events, which gave businesses an opportunity to network and share knowledge.

Sarah Kahle joined the City's Economic Development team in May and has been visiting businesses, responding to business queries and implementing our Economic Development Plan. If you would like to arrange a chat, please email business@southperth.wa.gov.au to set something up for the New Year.

We also held a fantastic networking event at the Emerging Artist Awards in August, bringing together artists and business owners to view the City's exhibition and recognise how they can work together.

We are working hard to create a business friendly environment within the City, with improved communication and collaboration behind the scenes and our continued participation in the Small Business Friendly Local Government program, run by the Small Business Development Corporation.

We worked with the State Government to assist our businesses to get ready for the WA Plastics Ban, visiting businesses and offering one-on-one consultations to reduce the use of single use plastics at their premises.

We celebrated the achievements of our business community, including multi-award winning bakers from Millstream Patisserie, Our Ruby Girl – winners of the 7NEWS Local Champions Awards – and Old Bridge Cellars, which was named WA Liquor Store of the Year.

We shared business knowledge with our community, with the introduction of the Small Business Collection at the Manning and South Perth libraries.

We welcomed new businesses throughout the City this year, with an increase in GST-registered businesses across the City by 185 businesses, bringing the total number to 5,390.
