City wins three Planning Excellence Awards

News Update 7 November 2022
South Perth Activity Centre Plan

The City of South Perth has received three top planning awards for its South Perth Activity Centre Plan.

Recognised at the Planning Institute of Australia (WA) 2022 Awards for Planning Excellence presentation on Friday 4 November, the City received the:

  • WA Minister for Planning Award: Public Benefits Contribution Scheme – South Perth Activity Centre Plan
  • Strategic Planning Project: South Perth Activity Centre Plan
  • Improving Planning Processes: Public Benefits Contribution Scheme – South Perth Activity Centre Plan

Over several years, the City's Planning team worked with the community and key stakeholders to prepare the plan and Scheme Amendment 61 to guide the City’s strategic vision and statutory planning requirements for development in the area between South Perth Peninsula, Richardson Park and Perth Zoo.

The area has developed into a distinctive inner city centre and tourism destination, with a mix of residential living, commercial uses, distinctive buildings, public art and a connection to the natural environment.

The area's pedestrian friendly tree-lined streets connect locals and visitors to its diverse businesses, transport nodes and local heritage.
