Congratulations to artist Elzara, winner of the City's Emerging Artist Soco Realty People’s Choice Award for 2022.

Her vibrant artwork titled 'In memory of Tricia' was a crowd-pleaser during the exhibition, receiving the highest number of votes from the public. The painting pays tribute to 65-year-old Asian elephant Tricia, a Perth Zoo resident who passed away this year.

The artist will be awarded a $750 prize from generous sponsor Soco Realty and the artwork will be displayed in large format alongside past winners in the underground carpark at Coles on Angelo Street.

Now in its 20th year, the 2022 Emerging Artist Award – with its largest prize pool of $15,000 – is a vital part of the City’s cultural life and is open to all emerging artists in Western Australia.

This year the City acquired two artworks for its collection, Beauty and the Beast by Ben Hsu and Kulbardi by Zali Morgan.

The Emerging Artist Award Exhibition was curated by Artist/Director Ron Nyisztor and made possible by sponsors White Frame, The Karalee on Preston, Preston Street IGA, Liquor Barons on Angelo, Geoff Baker MLA, Soco Realty and John Curtin Gallery.
