It will be easier for restaurants and cafés to provide alfresco dining in the City of South Perth thanks to a recent policy change.

The City’s Chief Executive Officer can now fast-track alfresco dining applications within 14 days of receiving an application, provided they meet the necessary conditions.

Mayor Greg Milner said the City was committed to taking proactive measures to support local businesses and local jobs, particularly as the effects of COVID-19 continue to affect the community.

“Our community has been increasingly seeking outdoor dining options during COVID-19. We are supporting customers, business owners and staff, as well as increasing the vibrancy of our beautiful City, by removing barriers to an enhanced alfresco dining experience,” he said.

“This timely policy change will not only give our business community some financial relief during tough times, it will also assist local businesses to take full advantage of the State Government’s new $5 million COVID-19 Activating Alfresco Rebate Program.

“This is good for local business, good for local jobs and good for the local community.”

The City has also agreed to waive the associated application fees for alfresco dining for the rest of 2021/22, to further boost local business. This means a saving of $150 on initial application costs, as well as $60 per chair.

Existing businesses will benefit from the policy change, along with an additional 100 food businesses with the potential for provide some form of alfresco dining.
