Christmas is fast approaching and there's plenty happening in the City to kick off your celebrations. We are pleased to bring a range of free events and activities to the community each year as an opportunity to get together however you choose to celebrate.
Make the most of the glorious December weather at one of our family friendly outdoor events or head along to South Perth and Manning Library for a Christmas activity and pick up some summer reads while you are there.
Saturday 4 December, Christmas at the Old Mill
Join us for a day of celebrations at the Old Mill, 1-7.30pm on Saturday 4 December. There will be games, activities and entertainment, plus guided tours of the 186-year-old flour mill. The popular RAC Rescue Experience will be back in action, taking you on a 360-degree virtual mission on board a rescue helicopter. Bring a picnic, sing along to Christmas carols and expect a visit from a very special guest. The tree will light up after sunset. Learn more.
Wednesday 15 December, Under 5's Christmas Celebration
No one does Christmas like the City of South Perth Libraries. We've got plenty of festivities planned to keep children busy this December, starting with our celebration for children under 5 at South Perth Community Hall 10am-12pm on Wednesday 15 December. There will be rhymes, carols and festive activities. Booking is required for this event. Learn more.
Sunday 19 December, Carols at Sunset
Carols is always highlight in the lead up to Christmas, with a relaxed summer evening atmosphere and everyone's favourite carols performed by South Perth Lions Club Big Band. We are encouraging event-goers to support local restaurants and eateries along Mends St and South Perth Esp by picking up a bite to eat before the event or grabbing takeaway to enjoy as a picnic. The Lions Club BBQ will be in full swing too, with proceeds going towards the many community initiatives run by the club. Join us at the Mends Street Foreshore near Mindeerup for children's activities from 5.30pm and carols from 6.30pm. Entry is by gold coin donation to Lions Club. Learn more.
Wednesday 22 December, End of Year Disco
Children will love dancing the year away at our End of Year Disco at Manning Community Hall from 10am-12pm. Suited to children aged 3 and above, the morning will involve games, dancing, prizes and fun activities for all. Festive dress-ups are encouraged so feel free to get into the holiday spirit and be as creative as you like. Booking is required for this event. Learn more.
All December, Letters to Santa
Post a letter to Santa's Mailbox at South Perth and Manning Library from 29 November until 24 December. Children who have been especially good will receive a reply from Santa - all the way from the North Pole. Replies from Santa can be collected from the libraries' every Tuesday, with one final delivery on Christmas Eve.
