City supports Meals on Wheels

News Update 6 April 2020
COVID

During this period of change, one of the City’s priorities is to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our community are cared for.

Mayor Greg Milner said the City, through the South Perth Senior Citizens Centre has assumed coordination of the Meals on Wheels service for our local community during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“City staff have been redeployed to help with the packaging and delivery of meals.  Our volunteer service has been scaled back for the time being to limit person to person contact.  A range of other safety measures have also been implemented including cashless payments and meals are now left at the front door in an esky.

“Meals on Wheels is currently delivering up to 40 meals each day, with that number increasing over the past couple of weeks. We are working to ensure that the needs of vulnerable or at-risk community members are met.

“The City is working with the State and Federal Governments and providing regular updates to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the local community during these uncertain and rapidly-changing times,” Mayor Milner said.
