Are you an up and coming writer?

The South Perth Young Writers Award is now open, encouraging excellence in creative writing.  This prestigious competition, now in its 34th year, is open to all students from Year one through to Year 12 who live in, or attend school within the City of South Perth.

There are five age categories for prose. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to attend a writing workshop to develop their skills and refine their submitted story, which is then re-read before finalists are chosen.

More than 20,000 entries have been received since the competition began. Each year the entries are judged by a panel of librarians, writers and children’s literature enthusiasts, with the Christobel Mattingley Bronze Medallion awarded to the entry judged to be the most outstanding.

Entries will close 4pm, Saturday 2 May 2020. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted towards the end of May. Finalists will be notified middle of June. The final award ceremony will take place on Thursday 30 July 2020. For more information click here.
