South Perth Libraries to host first Intergenerational Storytime

Library 11 September 2019

The City of South Perth Libraries will host an inaugural Intergenerational Storytime at Collier Park Village on Tuesday 17 September 2019 from 10.30am-12pm where the young and young at heart will share their love of stories, rhymes, songs and craft.

Seniors at Collier Park Village will welcome young library members aged two to five years and their carers to join a Storytime session, followed by free arts and craft activities and a light morning tea.

The City plans to introduce more intergenerational events if the inaugural Storytime session is well received by the community, as research into intergenerational programs has found positive impacts for all involved.

The event is part of a series of free library events running for Australian Reading Hour – a national initiative encouraging children and adults to rediscover or introduce themselves to reading and realise its great benefits.

According to Australian Reading Hour, reading has been shown to help with identity formation in children, and reduce stress by 68 per cent in adults – a greater benefit than listening to music, going for a walk or having a cup of tea.
