City celebrates young people

Media Release 26 March 2019

Youth Week WA is the single largest celebration of young people on the Western Australian youth calendar, running from 13 April to 20 April 2019.

The City of South Perth will celebrate Youth Week WA by hosting free events for 10 to 25 year olds to recognise the positive contributions of young people to our community.

During the week, the City will offer creative workshops, a showcase of local live music, sports competitions, a skateboarding clinic and a cooking class with former Master Chef contestant Brendan Pang.

City of South Perth Mayor, Sue Doherty said the week-long event was a time when issues important to young people could be discussed, solutions to youth challenges explored and profile the role of young people in our community and acknowledge their achievements.

“Youth Week is a special time showcase the talents and creativity of young people,  recognising the amazing ways that young people help to create vibrant communities.

“I am constantly inspired by the accomplishments, determination and generosity of the young people in our community and beyond.  In energising our City with their enthusiasm they contribute so much, whether it be through volunteering or striving to make a better place for us all.”

The South Perth Youth Network (SPYN) have assisted the City in organising many of this year’s events. Please note, workshops places are limited and priority is given to City of South Perth residents and local students aged between 10 to 25 years old.
