Under the theme - Because of Her, We Can! - NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme recognises the role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play - at community, local, state and national levels.

The City of South Perth will mark NAIDOC Week, by partnering with community organisations and local Noongar community members to host a series of free events.

“We invite our community to join us as we mark the start of the City’s NAIDOC Week 2018 events with a flag raising ceremony at the City of South Perth Civic Centre, at 10am Tuesday 10 July which will be followed by a morning tea for all to attend,” City of South Perth Mayor, Sue Doherty said.

“As part of the celebrations the City will host events including a special presentation with Noongar woman, Kerry-Ann Winmar which will explore the theme Because of Her, We Can! and the vital role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women as leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates.

“The week will also feature children’s arts and crafts at our City libraries, a display of Aboriginal art at Manning Library and a special event with Jasmine Fitzgerald, a local Noongar women who will tell Aboriginal stories whilst you relax and enjoy mindful Noongar colouring in.”
