New way to manage eBook holds

News Update 24 February 2020

Library users who borrow eBooks through OverDrive will notice a new feature going live from Monday 2 March 2020.

Hold redelivery will give you more flexibility when managing your holds. You’ll be able to suspend a hold even after it has been made available to you, while maintaining your place on the wait list.

This means the book will be made available to the next person in line if you don’t have time to read it. You can specify a timeframe to be offered the book again - in a month’s time, for example - and you’ll receive a notification as soon as it’s available.

Users will get notifications through the Libby and OverDrive apps when their hold is available and be able to:

  1. Borrow the title within three days.
  2. Suspend the hold by selecting ‘deliver later’. This option passes the book to the next person in line. After the suspension period you’ve set is complete, you’ll be offered the book as soon as a copy becomes available.
  3. Cancel the hold if you no longer want the book.

The auto checkout function will be disabled once this takes effect.
