Help transform kids’ menus across the City

News Update 12 November 2025

The City of South Perth is supporting a pilot program that aims to put more vegetables on kids’ plates when dining out.

Transforming Kids’ Menus is an initiative developed by Edith Cowan University and East Metropolitan Health Service. The program encourages local venues to include a side of vegetables with every savoury children’s meal, helping to normalise eating vegetables when eating out.

With many children not eating enough veggies, and families dining out more often, this small change could make a big difference.

Led by researchers and public health nutritionists, the pilot will help inform future research into improving kids’ menus across Western Australia.

Local favourite, Our Ruby Girl, a community-focussed café on Ley Street in Como, is the first to pilot the project. The café is known for its commitment to providing employment opportunities for people with disability. Owners Vikas and Sumita Rohilla have continued to build on this positive impact and are proud to be part of the Transforming Kids’ Menus initiative.
