Old Mill Site Enhancement Works

News Update 17 July 2025
Works have been completed at the Old Mill site to create a more inviting community space and encourage more visitations.

One of the most eye-catching enhancements at the site is the re-branding of the former Education Centre to ‘Cultural Hub’. The building now features six Indigenous seasons decals on the front window inspired by the powerful artwork designs by local artist Fiona Reidy.

Other exciting improvements include:

  • Open access to the parklands – visitors can now attend the site at any time following the removal of the front perimeter fence and installation of bollards to make it easier for families and visitors to enjoy picnics, events and casual visits.
  • New interpretive signage – 12 new signs have been installed within the Old Mill gardens to acknowledge First Nations and European history, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the site’s cultural significance.
  • Volunteer guides – plans are in place for volunteer guides to be onsite on the first and third Sundays of spring, summer and autumn between 2pm and 4pm, offering additional insight into the history and heritage of the Old Mill and its grounds.
  • Potential future activations – opportunities for community groups and commercial operators to increase activation of the Old Mill by hosting tourism activities and other cultural initiatives from the site.
The Old Mill Cultural Hub and parklands are available for hire for a range of organised cultural activities, such as comedy nights and cultural tours.

The Old Mill is situated in Melville Place, South Perth.
