Important information for pet owners

News Update 19 February 2025
Microchipping is a legislative requirement and a great step in keeping your pet safe, but it’s just as important to ensure their details are up to date.

As HomeSafeID has stopped operations, pet owners must ensure their pet’s microchip details are transferred to Central Animal Records to avoid any issues if their pet goes missing.

How to check your pet’s microchip details

  • Not sure where your pet’s microchip is registered? Use the Pet Address website to find out.
  • Don’t know your pet’s microchip number? Contact your vet or call our Animal Care Facility on 9474 0777—they can scan your pet and provide the number.

Keeping your pet’s microchip details current ensures they can be quickly reunited with you if they ever go missing. Please take a few minutes to check today.

Additionally, it is important as a responsible dog owner to ensure your pet is registered with the City and is wearing a collar with current registration tag and name tag, with up-to-date phone numbers. This will increase the likelihood of your pet being returned to you.

If you need to change any registration details this can be done online, or by calling the Animal Care Facility during staffed hours.

If you require a replacement tag, these are issued from the Animal Care Facility or can be posted out.

If your pet is not currently registered with the City, this can be done either online or by visiting the Animal Care Facility.
