At the Ordinary Council Meeting held 27 August 2024, the City of South Perth Council adopted revised dog exercise and prohibited areas.
This review was conducted to help dog owners easily identify where they can exercise their dogs on- or off-lead, in line with the Dog Act 1976.
The changes proposed for the City’s
dog exercise and
prohibited areas will promote safer usage of the City’s reserves for the community, dogs and native flora and fauna.
The City has developed a set of principles six principles to assist dog owners in finding a suitable location to safely exercise their dogs off lead:
To protect our flora and fauna, dogs are not permitted in any of the City’s wetlands, bushland, conservation areas or other sensitive natural environments. Dogs may be walked on lead on designated paths through these areas.
Dogs are not permitted on designated bike paths, skate parks or bike tracks.
Dogs must be on lead within 5m of approved sporting or community events.
Dogs are not permitted within 5m of playgrounds and play spaces.
Dogs must be on lead in car parks and on boat or jet ski ramps.
Dogs must be on lead in all other public areas.
These dog exercise and prohibited areas will go into effect on 30 September 2024.
