Dog Exercise Areas
PLEASE NOTE: The information on this page will not take effect until Wednesday 30 September 2024.
The City of South Perth welcomes dog owners to walk their dog on-lead in public places and has made it easier than ever for dog owners to find on-lead and off-lead areas.

Interactive map of all dog exercise areas
Use our up-to-date interactive online mapping tool to view the off-lead and not permitted areas. If the area is not marked green (off lead) or red (not permitted), the dog must be on lead.
Please note: Some areas of the map previously labelled as off-lead have been updated to reflect our dog walking principles (below). This includes car parks, playgrounds/play spaces and verges along main roads, which are now on-lead dog exercise areas.

Enclosed dog exercise areas
In 2024/2025 the City will be fencing two dog exercise areas to create an enclosed dog park at Olives Reserve and an enclosed dog park for small dogs at Melville Parade, opposite Comer Reserve in Como.
Principles
The City has developed a set of principles that guide us on designating on-lead, off-lead and not-permitted areas.
- To protect our flora and fauna, dogs are not permitted in any of the City’s wetlands, bushland, conservation areas or other sensitive natural environments. Dogs may be walked on-lead on designated paths through these areas.
- Dogs are not permitted on designated bike paths, skate parks or bike tracks.
- Dogs must be on-lead within 5m of approved sporting or community events.
- Dogs are not permitted within 5m of playgrounds and play spaces.
- Dogs must be on-lead in car parks and on boat or jet ski ramps.
- Dogs must be on-lead in all other public areas.
When you’re out with your dog
Being a responsible dog owner means ensuring your dog is registered, trained, healthy, safe, well-cared for and does not create a nuisance to other members of your community.
We understand that some dogs are playful and just want to say hello, however, not everyone feels comfortable around dogs and it’s important to respect the needs of everyone using our public open spaces. Please also consider neighbouring properties and their pets by keeping the following in mind:
- Dogs must always be under effective control. This means keeping your dog close to you if they are off-lead in designated areas – and not allowing them to disturb other people and animals.
- For the safety of your dog and other people, please ensure that your dog has good recall before allowing them to exercise off-lead.
- If your dog is showing signs of distress, anti-social behaviour or aggression, remove your dog immediately from the area.
- Dogs must wear a collar with their registration tag attached, which will also help our Community Rangers return your furry friend to you if you become separated.
- You must pick up your dog’s poo.
- Dogs must be placed on-lead when entering and leaving the off-lead exercise area.
