The City welcomes dog owners to walk their dog on-lead in public places and has made it easier than ever for dog owners to find on-lead and off-lead areas.
Find a dog exercise area
Use our interactive online mapping tool to view the off-lead and not permitted areas. If the area is not marked green (off lead) or red (not permitted), the dog must be on lead.
Please note: Some areas of the map previously labelled as off-lead have been updated to reflect our dog walking principles (below). This includes car parks, playgrounds/play spaces and verges along main roads, which are now on-lead dog exercise areas.
Enclosed dog exercise areas
Olives Reserve
The City opened its first fully enclosed dog park at Olives Reserve in Como in May 2025, complete with agility equipment to exercise and play.
Olives Reserve is a dedicated space to help support good behaviour and promote positive social interactions between dogs of all sizes. Key enhancements to the park’s infrastructure include the addition of new pedestrian and access gates, and kerbing.

Comer Reserve
Designed for small dogs 10kg and under only, Comer Reserve in Como opened in July 2025 and offers a safe environment where dogs can run and play off-lead with dogs their own size.
Dog owners have a responsibility to ensure their pet behaves responsibly and is always under effective control and supervision. Outside of designated off-lead areas, dogs must be kept on a lead.

City wetlands, bushlands and conservation areas are home to a variety of native fauna and flora. This includes the Carnaby Black Cockatoos, Black Swans, turtles and various species of snakes. To protect this flora and fauna, dogs are not permitted in any of the City’s wetlands, bushland, conservation areas or other sensitive natural environments. Dogs may be walked on-lead on designated paths through these areas.
The City strives to provide safe and enjoyable public open spaces for all users. For everyone’s safety, dogs should not be within 5m of playgrounds. Play spaces can include basketball courts and cricket pitches.
