South Perth Council to consider recommendation on RAF project

Media Release 23 March 2023

A report on the City’s proposed Recreation and Aquatic Facility (RAF) will be considered at a Special Council Meeting on Thursday 30 March 2023.

It follows Council’s November 2022 resolution for the City to investigate a staged approach to address a funding shortfall and report back in March 2023.

The City has recommended that Council not proceed with the proposed RAF project due to high interest rates, rising inflation, escalating building costs and uncertainty around the economic climate. This, combined with a commitment that the RAF would not require an increase to rates, makes the project unviable.

Included in the Council Report is the RAF Feasibility Report, indicative budget cost estimates and concept drawings that were considered by the City when making this recommendation.

Council will make a decision on the recommendation at a Special Council Meeting on Thursday 30 March 2023. The Meeting will be held in the City’s Council Chamber, cnr Sandgate St and South Tce, South Perth, commencing at 6pm. Audio will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend.

Community members can prepare up to three questions and deputations, which can be found on the City’s Council Meetings page.

Additional information about the RAF project can be found on the City’s RAF webpage
