City seeks nominations for Community Reference Groups

  • Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity in the community development or cultural development areas?

Nominations are now open for voluntary/unpaid roles with a number of City of South Perth community reference/advisory groups:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group (RWG)
  • Inclusive Community Advisory Group (ICAG)
  • Community Safety and Crime Prevention Group (CS&CPG) 
  • Arts Advisory Group (AAG)
  • Public Health Reference Group (PHRG)

The term of appointment to the group(s) will be October 2021 to October 2023.

Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group (RWG)

The RWG is a new group being established to assist with the implementation of the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan. The RWG will meet quarterly during office hours and will supersede the former Aboriginal Reference Group. Nominees must fall into one of the following categories to be eligible to nominate for the RWG:

  • A traditional owner of the Nyungar Nation supported by Wadjuk Working Group
  • A local First Nations resident
  • Represent a local City of South Perth Aboriginal Organisation
  • A local Resident committed to working towards positive relations between First Nations people and non-Aboriginal people.

Inclusive Community Advisory Group (ICAG)

 The ICAG is an existing group that is responsible for the oversight of the City’s Access and Inclusion Plan. The ICAG will meet quarterly during office hours. Nominees must fall into one of the following categories to be eligible to nominate for the ICAG:

  • A representative from external local providers of access and inclusion services
  • A representative from the education and training sector with a focus on access and inclusion
  • A local Resident committed to access and inclusion improvement in the City.

Community Safety and Crime Prevention Group (CS&CPG) 

The CS&CPG is an existing group that is responsible for the oversight of the City’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan. The CS&CPG will meet quarterly during office hours. Nominees must fall into one of the following categories to be eligible to nominate for the CS&CPG:

  • Local MLA (member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of South Perth) or representative
  • WA Police representative
  • Department of Communities (Housing) representative
  • WA Local Government Association – RoadWise representative
  • Curtin University representative
  • Local business owner
  • Local Youth Service provider
  • Local Resident committed to community safety and crime prevention in the City.

Arts Advisory Group (AAG)

The AAG is a new group being established to provide specialist advice and recommendations on City and private developer public art projects, the management of the City’s collection of art and public art and relevant arts and cultural projects and programs. The AAG will meet quarterly after office hours and will supersede the former Public Art Advisory Group. 

There are four places for industry members on the AAG. Nominees must be arts professionals with qualifications and/or substantial experience in one or more of the following fields to be eligible to nominate for the AAG:

  • Art Practice;
  • Art Consultancy/Curating
  • Design/Planning (e.g. Architecture, Urban Design, Town Planning)
  • Collections Management and Conservation
  • Other Cultural Industries.

Public Health Reference Group (PHRG)

The PHRG is a new group being established to provide advice on implementation of the City’s Public Health Plan. The PHRG will meet quarterly during office hours. Nominees must fall into one of the following categories to be eligible to nominate for the PHRG:

  • A representative from East Metropolitan Health Service 
  • A representative from Curtin University
  • A representative from Australian Medical Association of Western Australia
  • A representative from WA Primary Health Alliance
  • Up to two health professionals who work in the City
  • Up to two local community members committed to advancing public health.

How to Nominate

Nominees can express their interest for any of the above community reference/advisory groups by completing a Nomination Form (including detailing relevant experience and accepting the terms of reference) before Friday 8 October 2021.
