Challenger Reserve floodlighting upgrade stage two

News Update 4 August 2021
Parks and Reserve works

Stage two of the upgrade to the floodlighting at Challenger Reserve are scheduled to start the week commencing 16 August 2021.

Stage two works comprise of the connection of electrical cabling and installation of floodlighting poles.

The works will take approximately three weeks with completion scheduled for mid-September, weather permitting. Works will be carried out between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Although, it may be necessary to carry out some activities outside of these hours to complete the works.

Traffic management and reserve access

There will be minimal impact on the reserve usage, although localised areas will be closed periodically to facilitate the works.

There will be occasional movements of construction vehicles throughout the Reserve that may present a hazard to the public and off-lead dogs. For the safety of the public, there will be on-site protection to prevent access to any excavations. Please follow all signage and/or directions from worksite personnel.

Background

Stage one of the upgrade to the sports lighting at Challenger Reserve commenced in May as part of the City's 2020/21 Capital Works Program.

Ten new floodlights will be installed at the perimeter of each of the three sporting fields and a new lighting control system will be installed to maximise energy savings and automatically regulate the lighting.

The City's Sports Oval Floodlighting Plan provides the framework for the upgrade of floodlights across the City’s active reserves.
