As part of the City's support for a thriving local economy and vibrant neighbourhood hubs, we are working alongside Visit Perth to showcase some of the most popular shopping and dining precincts in South Perth and Como. Welcome to my Neighbourhood is a video series featuring local residents and their favourite places.

Famous views are not the only thing that attracts visitors to the heart of South Perth. A walk along leafy Mends Street offers a mix of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, alongside colourful street art and history ready to be discovered.

Join local student Dillon on a tour of his favourite places along Mends Street and the South Perth Foreshore.

The 120 year old Ferry Tram at Windsor Park is Dillon's suggested spot to experience a glimpse into the past. Visitors can jump onboard the original tram that rattled along Mends Street in 1922, transporting excited passengers to and from the ferry at Mends Street Jetty. Combined with a visit to Heritage House next door, it's an excellent way to learn about how transport has changed through the ages.

Mends Street Arcade is a one stop destination for shopping. Whether browsing for yourself, shopping for a gift for a loved one, or looking to pick up a picnic to take down to the foreshore, you will find it here. Dillon suggests the Good Grocer for the best selection of afternoon snacks.

La Patisserie will tempt anyone with a sweet tooth. Tucked under the stairs along Mends Street, you could be forgiven for walking right past if not for the smell of freshly baked croissants. Dillon recommends trying the almond croissant that La Patisserie is famous for.

The piazza at Mindeerup is the gateway to South Perth, welcoming visitors from the ferry before they head up Mends Street. Mindeerup is a traditional Noongar name meaning ‘place of the shore’. It’s a perfect spot to catch up with friends or simply enjoy the stunning views of the Swan River and Perth city skyline.

To experience South Perth Foreshore from a different perspective, Dillion suggests paying a visit to Perth Waterbike Co, where you can jump on a tour and pedal out onto the water. There are a range of waterbike tour options available, from a relaxing sunset pedal to an express 30 minute ride.
