City to celebrate NAIDOC Week
The City is embracing the opportunity to recognise First Nations People with a program of events and cultural workshops during NAIDOC Week, 4-7 July 2021. This year’s theme, Heal Country! calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
NAIDOC 2021 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders as they do the cultures and values of all Australians.
A flag raising ceremony at South Perth Community Hall at will officially open the City's NAIDOC Week celebrations on Monday 5 July, with a week of events to follow. We are proud to welcome Indigenous Yorga artist Connie Clinch to the Old Mill on Wednesday 7 July to share her knowledge with younger members of our community at two art workshops.
