Swimming pool and spa inspections postponed

The City of South Perth Building Services is monitoring health advice from the Australian Government and the Department of Health relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our priority is to look after the health and well-being of our staff and customers, and to ensure we are safe from the infection.

You may have recently received a letter requesting that you book an appointment to have your home swimming pool or spa barrier inspected as part of the State Government's private home swimming pool safety barrier assessment requirements. Due to the current COVID-19 developments, we have decided to make necessary adjustments to our private home swimming pool inspections regime.

At this time we feel that the advice of the Government and Health Authorities in relation to social distancing means that it is no longer viable to have inspections taking place and we are regrettably withdrawing our building Surveyor and the swimming pool inspectors from conducting this service, until further notice .

If your swimming pool and the safety barrier is due for inspection in the coming weeks and months we will make further contact with you once the inspections regime can restart.

In the meantime we would encourage you to do the following:

• It is your responsibility to make sure that your property is safe at all the times
• If there are children at your property it is very important to practice the Royal Life Saving“Keep Watch” principals, and always closely supervise children around the swimming pool
• You should regularly check your swimming pool safety barrier to ensure it meets all the relevant Building Regulations 2012 of Western Australia. Information is available at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Building and Energy's website  "Rules for Pool and Spas" publication.
