Celebrate Australia Day on the South Perth foreshore
Come and celebrate Australia Day 2017 at Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth. The best view and most fun south of the river!
Celebrations begin at 8am with the annual Morning Ceremony which includes the welcoming of Australia's newest citizens, a Welcome to Country, raising of the Australian flag, presentation of the Australia Day WA Citizen of the Year Awards, and the Ted Maslen Memorial University Exhibition Award.
The Great Aussie Breakfast is set to sizzle after the Morning Ceremony with the Rotary Clubs of Como and Mill Point cooking a delicious BBQ for a $5 donation, with all proceeds going back to the local community. Plus, there will be free kids’ entertainment.
Presented by the City of South Perth and supported by Lotterywest, the Celebration Zone returns to Sir James Mitchell Park from 3pm until 7.30pm.
Spanning over 10 hectares along the South Perth foreshore, the zone features multiple areas with 100 free and fun activities suitable for toddlers through to adults. New in 2017 are Archery Tag, Barrel Toss, the Maze Box, Tip A Doll, Jacobs Ladder and Spider Ball. The Celebration Zone is alcohol and smoke free with plenty of shade, free water stations, free sunscreen plus a range of food vendors.
In the Art Tent kids have the opportunity to be inspired by what they love about Australia whilst decorating a kite or a paper umbrella, making a friendship bracelet, creating a beautiful sand art card or making an original fridge magnet.
The Big Top offers onstage entertainment with magicians, storytelling and dance. Roving entertainers and performers will add to the fun atmosphere of the day.
All activities in the Celebration Zone will wrap up at 7.30pm to allow you to find a spot to watch the City of Perth Skyworks fireworks display which commence at 8pm.
The City of South Perth would like to thank all individual volunteers and community organisations for their commitment, enthusiasm and support of the Celebration Zone:
• Girl Guides Western Australia Inc.
• South Perth Youth Network (SPYN)
• Rotary Clubs of Como and Mill Point
• Soroptimist International of South Perth
