Canning Bridge Precinct Study Information Day

A community Information Day is being held to provide an opportunity for landowners and community groups to learn more about the Canning Bridge Rail Station Precinct Study, and landowners within 800 metres radius of the study area have been invited to attend.

The Day will initiate the community consultation associated with Stage 2 of the study, providing a forum for the voicing of ideas, proposals, information, expectations and issues relating to the future redevelopment of the study area. The City has been working in partnership with the Western Australian Planning Commission, the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, and the City of Melville in a major study of the precinct since 2006.

Stage 1 involved community engagement and discussion with interested stakeholders to determine broad attitudes and preferences for the study area. Stage 2 of the study commences with the Information Day and will take into account the results of previous consultation, while also involving additional community engagement and consultation. The City is keen for invited landowners in the area to attend the information session and provide their input, ideas and any concerns, enabling them to be taken into account as matters progress and more specific proposals for the future development of the area are developed.

The purpose of the study itself is to examine the possibility of creating a vibrant activity centre at the bus and rail interchange at Canning Bridge, in line with Transit Oriented Design best practice and the State Government’s “Network City” principles. This aims to cater to growing populations by promoting increased employment and other activities at local and regional centres that are linked to key public transport services.

The study will examine a wide range of planning aspects, including urban design, economic viability, access and the surrounding movement network, and will focus particularly on pedestrian access to the station, car parking and vehicle circulation, housing diversity, built form, access to the river, precinct character and visual landscape. Additional information and opportunities for consultation will be provided in August and September as the Study progresses, and it will culminate in the delivery of a local area planning strategy, taking into account the community vision for the precinct.
