Summer reads
We asked our lovely librarians to share their favourite holiday reads.
Tamara | The Old Ways by Robert MacFarlane
The Old Ways follows the ancient tracks, holloways, drove roads, and sea paths of the British landscape. It’s part travel guide, part folklore, part notes from a pilgrim of nature.
Amy | Homecoming by Kate Morton
A dual timeline mystery novel set amongst the Adelaide Hills, this book will transport readers with its evocative descriptions and strong female characters.
Bernette | The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager
I couldn’t put it down, and I think you’ll love it too! The story had me hooked from the first page, and the plot’s unexpected twists kept me engaged until the very end.
Kate | Enchantment by Katherine May
I love how the book explores with humor and sensitivity the ways in which we can reconnect with the natural world and find balance between work, leisure, family, and relationships.
Anthony | Snuff by Terry Pratchett
I have chosen Snuff but extend that recommendation to any of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. I have been re-reading them since I was 10 years old and still get a chuckle.
Audrey | Penguin Bloom by Cameron Bloom and Bradley Trevor Greive
This true story will make you look at the common magpie in a different way. A beautiful book of heartfelt pain, possibility, and inner strength.
