Smoke Pollution

Wood smoke information

Smoke from wood heaters and other products may cause a nuisance in urban areas, particularly when they produce excessive smoke, impacting on other people's outdoor activities, including clothes drying, or having a negative impact on neighbours' health.

To help reduce smoke pollution and ensure the safe use of wood heaters, barbecues and backyard burning, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has a series of brochures, which provide information and guidelines for the community.

Burnwise information can be accessed on the DWER website.
