About SongStory

SongStory is a creative arts project that explores participants emotional connection to the special songs in their lives. Through music and song, the project gives life to personal stories and is filled with feel-good moments for participants and the wider community including people with dementia. It’s fun, inspiring, interactive, and nostalgic.

The SongStory production writer/producer uses the story’s that have been shared with her to create a mini musical/SongStory which is performed live by three professional musicians bringing the older people’s memories to life. The performance will be unique to the City of South Perth and will be recorded and turned into a permanent memento to be shared through the City’s media channels. It will also be included in our South Perth Stories area that is part of the City’s Library collection.

This event is part of the City's initiatives for WA Seniors Week (12-19 November 2023). WA Seniors Week 2023 runs from 12-19 November 2023, and recognises the important role that seniors play in our community and celebrates the contributions of older Western Australians.

Dementia awareness

Throughout November, the City will be hosting and involved in events to support people with dementia, their carers and professionals working in this field. Dementia is the leading cause of death for females in the City of South Perth and the second leading cause of death for males (City of South Perth Community Health Profile 2019). With an ageing population, the City will be dealing with a larger burden of prevalence of dementia, which has been identified in the City's strategic plans; Community Strategic Plan, Public Health Plan and Access and Inclusion Plan 2022-2027.
