Liberty Swing & Beach Wheelchair
The City is proud to be able to offer the community a Liberty Swing, a piece of playground equipment designed for people with limited mobility.
Located in the City’s most accessible playground in Sir James Mitchell Park, the swing can be used with or without a wheelchair. This facility was made possible by a combination of funds from the City of South Perth, Lotterywest and Variety WA The Children's Charity.
A Beach Wheelchair is available for adults and children to use at Sir James Mitchell Park’s foreshore beach and water areas. Funded jointly by the City of South Perth and Disability Service Commission, the wheelchair has large inflatable balloon-like tyres designed to enable easy and safe travel over rough terrain.
It is stored in a custom-built shed near the Scented Gardens, which connects to the Easy Access Parking bays in the Mends Street car park by a continuous pathway. Accessible facilities in this section of the park include ramp access to the quartz beach, a water fountain, picnic table and barbecues.
Accessing the Liberty Swing and Beach Wheelchair
Both the Beach Wheelchair and the Liberty Swing can be accessed with a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) which can be purchased from the City of South Perth booking office.
