City recognises high achieving student

Wesley College student Michael Swift received the City's Ted Maslen University Exhibition Award for 2023.

Michael has been named the top performing Year 12 student in the City of South Perth, achieving outstanding results across six ATAR subjects and the top student for chemistry, economics and literature.

The prestigious award was presented at the Australia Day Ceremony on Thursday 26 January 2023. Along with the award, Michael will receive a $3,000 prize to assist with costs associated with university studies. 

The City presents the Ted Maslen Award to the top performing student each year in honour of Dr Ted Maslen, a renowned local scholar and past City of South Perth Councillor.

Dr Ted Maslen was a prize-winning student, Rhodes Scholar and renowned staff member at the University of Western Australia from 1960. Dr Maslen was founding director of UWA’s crystallography centre and head of the Physics Department from 1993 until his death in 1997. He was involved with the City of South Perth for 22 years, and served as a Councillor for three terms.
